MILAN, Jun 29, 2006/ FW/ --- Futuristic without looking sci-fi, sportive with a new vision and modern with a touch of experimentation, Italo Zucchelli’s Calvin Klein menswear collection raised some eyebrows, while at the same time raising the brand into a new level.

First, the snug-fitting suit jackets came with collars or without, which were styled with thin ties or again, without ties. Sometimes, the necktie was only an illusion, the color of the placket different from the rest of the shirt, looked a slim tie from afar.

It was the these tiny details that made the collection covetable; like the graphic prints on crewneck tees and the sepia print on a nylon bomber jacket. It was experimental, yet very familiar, like the tights shown on the runway in sky blue and black.

We have seen them in the sports arena. Athletes like Lance Armstrong wear cycling tights for function and protection. They are aerodynamic and comfortable. But, these tights were shown front and center, raising some eyebrows.

Still, men use them. Perhaps, its because the models were not running laps or the Tour de France was actually in France and far from Milan. It was disturbing to some, yet if we really think about it, these tights have the same fit as thermals and Calvin Klein has made a fortune selling underwear.

Of course, it is summer, and thermals are not needed. But, the tights are sportive, to be used while working out. That some of them came in bright colors just give men choices other than the requisite black. Also, men have walked out of the gym wearing their workout gear with their jackets on.

It’s the wave of the future; we are actually working towards it. With obesity currently a big problem in the U.S., exercising has become a national focus. So, why not show it on the runway. Exercising does not mean giving up on style.

There were other innovations too. The nylon trench coat and nylon bomber jackets made stiff with lining. There was also the quilted nylon pull over that is gathered at the cuff sleeves. And the must-have, the cable knit V-neck sweater, woven like a trellis.

For accessories, expect people lining up for the white alligator laptop sleeve. That will be a hot item come Spring.
