Carmen Marc Valvo Spring 2006: Midnight at The Oasis
New York Fashion Week Spring 2006
By Heide Winkenwerder

Carmen Marc Valvo LOS ANGELES, Sep 25, 2005 / FW/ --- It was the time of Camelot, when John F. Kennedy was in the White House and Jackie Kennedy was already considered a fashion icon. But on the West Coast, it was the time of the Rat Pack and Ocean’s 11 (the original) in Las Vegas.

It was the 1960s and Carmen Marc Valvo went back in time to bring to us the ‘sensuality and innocence meshed seamlessly to create an aura of excitement, promise and possibility.’

“It’s beautiful! I love the way Carmen Marc did the small pleats then twisted them a bit,” commented Rachel Hunter who sat front row.

And the model and former Mrs. Rod Stewart was right. Carmen Marc Valvo’s take on the 1960 was energetic and vivacious. It was not retro. Rather, it was a convergence of the spirit of the era and then translating it to modern terms.

All 46 exits shown in New York last week was about a city that truly ‘never sleeps’ wherein parties can happen 24 hours, and since there are NO public clocks in Las Vegas, you don’t really know what time it is.

So, the ladies have to be ready for anything and everything, from the opening sand metallic linen suit with pearl shear cotton knit tank finished off with a tiny belt hanging loosely from the waist, to the closing look of black and pearl crepe gown, with a cris-cross low back ending on a white train.

There was no delineation between daywear and eveningwear. This was Las Vegas after all.

So, it is not surprising that Carmen Marc Valvo also ‘transcended the boundary between jewelry and clothing by using Tahitian pearls, not just as an accessory, but also as the very essence of a garment, spinning a shell of black pearls and beads into statement pieces.’
