NEW YORK, Feb 14, 2001/ FW/ – Catherine Malandrino showed her sense
of humour with her Fall 2001 collection. Using primary colors (yes, the good ole' red, white and blue)
as the color pallette, she came out with a natty, and very wearable collection.
Catherine Malandrino delved into the topic of "Smart America" and added French
sensibilities to it. Yes, the Catherine Malandrino woman is our kind of girl - funny,
sensitive and smart!
The designer sent models to the runway wearing lurex pants and dress flags. As a homage to the
American pasttime, she updated the baseball jacket to be part of "rocker chic" and
embroidered skirts and sweaters with American emblems.
Among the models is 21-year old Kimberly, the daughter of Rod Stewart by his first wife Alana Hamilton.
Talk about rock royalty modeling rocker chic!
Go go boots, wide belts, colorful leather pants which are either slim cut or bell bottoms, matched with
knit sweaters in primary colors embellished with American emblems are the main fare of this collection. My
favorite - the necktie printed with an American flag. A little bit natty and I don't know where one would
wear it, but it's fun and it looks cool!
Slashed skirts, slashed pants and assymetrical hemlines which are usually above the knee were shown, together
with knit dresses and tops. The whole collection just oozed with fun and sex appeal. And, oh, "God Bless
America!"
