NEW YORK, Feb 9, 2007 / FW --- Bucking the trend of mining the 1980s for inspiration, Chaiken revisited the 1940s and found Mary Millicent Rogers, who was known to the world as an American beauty and fashion icon during her time.
On a runway made up of rugs showing Native American designs, Jeff Mahsie and Julie Chaiken sent out multiple variants of the trousers from Cracker Jacks, slouchy and cropped that are either cut wide or slim.
They also proposed several styles of the jackets – snug & brief, double-breasted in trapeze shape, cropped at waist & loose.
The popular silhouettes of the 1940s were incorporated in the black dresses are one of the best showing for basic black this season – square neck jumpers, coat dresses worn with trousers, hour glass shapes with heart necklines that have lace or silk inserts at times.
Silk blouses with bows, 4-button trench coats, knitted coats closed with a sash, oversized knit sweaters and pencil skirts make up the rest of the wardrobe for the Chaiken woman this coming fall.
The closing exits are very interesting though. Recommended as eveningwear, their bright colors and nonchalance styling make them appropriate for both day and night.
