PARIS, Mar 3, 2006/ FW/ --- Karl Lagerfeld proposes two things this fall for Chanel aficionados, wear minis and show off your legs and wear floor length frocks that cover it all.
Lagerfeld who has always been directional seemed to have vacillated between cute minis that stylishly traced the female form to covering up the lower body with palazzo pants paired with long coats or tops that can pass for dresses with hemlines reaching just below the knee.
Interesting to note is that even the minis, like the black leather jumper paired with a white ruffled blouse worn by Gemma Ward was layered over with a chiffon skirt and a white day jacket.
The minis, which were usually matched with Chanel’s signature black-toed white boots or the black on black variety, it was still a toss up whether the Chanel lady will cover up or not.
Nevertheless, the long or short of it, the Chanel lady cannot go wrong with the three-quarter sleeve black top embroidered with red, the torso taut constructed with horizontal pleats. Proposed to be worn with a mini, it will still look great even if it was paired with a black palazzo pants.
The coats were also proposed in two lengths – above the knee or reaching the calves. And while black and white were the predominant colors of choice, there were baby pinks and beige to brighten things up.
Volume was also tightly controlled, with Karl Lagerfeld opting for architecturally structured silhouettes with only a few exceptions where ruching and slight sheering were introduced.
