PARIS, Jul 8, 2005/ FW/ --- If for menswear this is the year of the jacket, Karl Lagerfeld proposed yesterday that for Fall 2005 is the season of the coat for the fabulously wealthy.
With all the models wearing a black coat, made of different materials, of course, opening them up to reveal one of the most colorful Chanel collections seen, Karl Lagerfeld succeeded in upstaging the menswear season in both Milan and Paris that featured all kinds of suits, from formal to sportswear.
Come to think of it, Karl Lagerfeld has a very good ‘base’ to start with! Sending classic Chanel suits with colors ranging from salmon to the traditional houndstooth, it was already a winner form look #1.
From the tweed suits to the delicately beaded and embroidered halter cocktail dress in black with layers of feathers as the skirt, everything was characteristically Chanel – wearable, beautiful and sought after by most women in the world.
Yet, with the black coats covering them all up in the beginning, there was drama while the model peeled off her “outer skin.”
Karl Lagerfeld is precise, attentive even to the minutest detail. With this collection, he actually overdid himself, taking the extra mile to make the Chanel collection one of the best this season.
