NEW YORK, April 15, 2003/ FWD/ --- Plenty of attention-getting detail permeated Chanel's autumn/winter 2003 accessories and ready-to-wear presentation in New York last week.

The late Coco Chanel's penchant for unpredictable accessories was elegantly summoned with large chains, not only strewn around necks, shoulders, waists and wrists, but also wrapped around the clothing and dangling from fabulous bags.

There was plenty of flower power, too: black, white and silver carnations appeared on everything from jackets to bags, and even composed an impressive intricate top in pale pink.

The house's signature pearls played a part as well, sprinkled through a fur neck warmer that comes with matching hat and mittens.

Clothing-wise, there were sumptuous leather pieces and multiple styles of minis for everyone.

The mid-length minis were metallic, tasseled, pleated, printed, studded, lace-trimmed and tweeded.

And speaking of tweed, the new Chanel suit, with its curved back and ruffled trimming, looked wonderful in various gently colors, as did the coordinating shoes and bags.

Ribbon was abundant, from the ankle fastening of the 'Tuxedo Shoe' to ties on evening dresses and detailing on sporty tops.

There were some spectacular bags, including novelty pieces like the keyboard bag, a white leather clutch with a rubber keyboard spelling out CHANEL, or a white leather halter bag with zippers.

An incredible rabbit fur bag with the house's symbol printed on the inside was introduced, as well as a new metallic collection, which includes shoes, belts and quilted bags in metallic shades of green, purple and nickel.

The new stitch and chain handbag -- with a large leather tassel attached to the zipper and equally chunky zipper and hardware -- is hip in every way.

Another winner was the "vintage" collection based on an archive piece, replete with a ladylike quilted leather body and chain strap, making it perfectly feminine.
