PARIS, Jan 25, 2007/ FW/ --- Eyes covered with a delicate mask, the hair in a chignon the lips a pale rose and their legs covered with black hose, the Chanel woman is a picture of innocent sophistication.
And to think that when Coco Chanel introduced the now classic Chanel look in the beginning of the 20th century, there was a collective gasp among the ‘polite’ society. Almost a century hence, this ‘new style of women dressing’ has remained and became a standard for elegance and grace.
Graceful as swans, a score of models glided on a ‘gray Chanel logo-ed pond’ in the signature black & white Chanel suits. Checks, solid black, solid white and then interspersed with pink, red, gray and silver, Karl Lagerfeld reworked the classic Chanel style to a new level of refinement.
Beading and embroidery, though used profusely were subtle and airy. They’re there to ‘adorn’ and not be the center of attention, because after all, the ‘wearer’ should be the focus.
And as if Karl Lagerfeld was thinking of the World War I era, he sent some flapper-inspired gowns and dresses, a seeming tribute to the decade that gave birth to the House of Chanel.
So, this brings us to Coco Chanel’s famous quote, ‘Fashion passes, but style remains.’ As it turned out, her eponymous fashion house will be the living proof of that statement!
