Christian Lacroix: Color Me Haute

PARIS, Jul 7, 2004/ FW/ --- To enter the universe of Christian Lacroix means stepping into a wonderful world of color full of joy and its own sense of mysticism. It’s also entering another time and place, as the designer brings us to a world of cascading frills and sparkling gems, where anything is possible and everything is beautiful.

That is exactly the feeling of Lacroix’s Fall 2004 haute couture collection, where models wore hats that looked like white cotton candy, where the cabbage rose turned blue and butterflies decorated with diamantes alit on your collar.

It’s about the joie de vivre, of vitality of the spirit, and spring in your step, which the designer had never lost. For the past 16 years, Christian Lacroix had always given the fashion world something to smile about, a lightness and sweetness that can only be found in his creations.

And in this time when a lot of people doubt the viability of haute couture, Christian Lacroix stands as a shining example of why the world should not allow the made-to-craft to die.

Because though the designer has both menswear and women’s prêt-a-porter lines, it is in haute couture that he excels; it is where his genius is so apparent. Losing haute couture also means we will lose the bliss and pleasure that Christian Lacroix brings to his fans and clientele.

So it is fitting that the designer who had bring so much happiness to a lot of people with his artistic creation celebrate joy this season. It is as if his message is to erase the worries that inundate the crown jewel of French fashion and celebrate its beauty instead.

And with Christian Lacroix’s infectious enthusiasm, one cannot help but agree with him.
