Hotel du Petit Moulin

PARIS, Mar 26, 2005/ FW/ --- Like most buildings constructed during its era, the Hotel du Petit Moulin has a ‘slightly crooked and off-kilter perspective, with maze-like design of each floor. Each room was different from the other, with a ‘fetal style refuge’ ambiance.

To preserve that atmosphere, Christian Lacroix had to design each room individually and separately from each other, but with a single coherent vision that makes them function as one. Just like his collections wherein each garment has a different look, the silhouettes create one statement when taken as a whole.

With that in mind, the grand couturier ‘personalized each room and decorated them individually in relation to its orientation, the height of the ceiling and its location within the heart of the hotel.

Even the view was considered during the retrofit. Hence, every aspect and element, from the bed to the night stands, including the bed sheets and bed covers to the drapers were part of one big story.

Think of it as a book of short stories, each one tells a tale different from the other, yet as part of a body of one work they are all interrelated. When you finish the book, (this time it is the hotel guests who are reading it), you feel that you have read one whole novel.

There is an added twist though. The hotel guests write the conclusion of the story based on how they enjoyed their stay!
