New York, Feb 13, 2001/Fashion Wire Daily/ -- Designer Christina Perrin may have been making
headlines lately for dominatrix dresses like
the one Charlize Theron wore at the Golden Globes, but the Fall/Winter 2001 collection she
unveiled last night looked more appropriate in a wedding than a dungeon. Models sashayed down
the catwalk in streamlined full-length gowns with details like flowing trains and silver fox stoles.
Actress Tori Spelling stood up from her front-row seat before the presentation, showing off the
clothes Perrin had sent her, including an edgy black top with white feathers and leather pants.
"I was not that familiar with the clothes before she sent me this stuff," she said, "but I am
really excited to see what else she has."
This season Perrin went into the desert listing the "dramatic opulence inherent in costumes of
the Maharaja" as her style inspiration. This translated best when she added intricate patterns
to simple shapes - like a black beaded V-neck cocktail gown with paisley lace and a peacock
printed silk blouse.
Perrin did branch out into a few wilder combinations, which worked well including a safari
alligator mini coat-dress and red crepe gown with ruby fox cape that fit with the opulent
costume theme. But other pieces were a little silly and surreal, particularly the black furry
mini dress. After all, it's hard to imagine chinchillas roaming the Sahara.
