Christina Perrin: Refreshing Sorbet
Photos by: Joybell

Christina’s show was refreshing like sorbet. And some of the colors in her flowy, clean feminine collection could be mistaken for strawberry or mango sorbet. She used the terms ‘tangerine’ and ‘fuchsia’ and sent out gowns, cocktail dresses perfectly punctuated with either Swarovski crystal buckles or black and white geometric patterned belts.

Legs wore huge outsized fishnet weave hose, feet wore glitter thong slides and sandals and flower corsages were affixed carefully as chokers at the neck. There was a nod to punk in the opening outfit where Alex Wek strode out in a ‘Punk Couture” coat over one of the tangerine and fuchsia silk dresses and there were ‘hotter than now’ fun items like the Swarovski fire crystal leather bikini. Get on your diet now is what that little number screamed!

Leather as a bathing suit option is a new one but in our age of luxe and glamour somehow looked appropriate in here. The opal color with opal Swarovski crystal beaded bathing suit appeared from the back to a one-piece and from the front was revealed to be joined with a panel. Not one for the water but for the poolside, in the shade or worn as a top with pants for sure, but truly special. The red floral prints and mint floral prints in lurex were a great sporty combo.

But when Christina turned to shredded hems on the white laser seersucker bustier dress and skirt things looked too Raggedy-Anne. Too bad, as the turquoise alligator clutch and halter that went with these were like drinking in a blue daiquiri.

The ‘citrine’ acid lemon colored satins and chiffon’s were right on too. Especially the computer chip beaded white shirt ensemble paired with citrine satin pants. Right off a Miami South Beach photo shoot. Christina didn’t ignore the trends of asymmetry or one-shoulder-strapped dressing or even geometry. The Geometric iridescent beaded gown, dress and pants also fanned out slightly like a fishtail, balancing out this really well rounded collection. /Susan Redstone
