Clements Ribeiro's Trippy Chic

PARIS, Oct 14, 2002/ FWD/ --- Instead of hip beats from DJ supremo Michel Gaubert, the
soundtrack of last Tuesday's Clements Ribeiro show should have been "Lucy in The Sky with
Diamonds."
For despite childlike notions and colors, this well-edited and winning collection was
a clever take on an acid trip.
Not a nasty acid trip though, rather one as pretty as an innocent midsummer night's dream the
the design duo' son Hector might have.
This UK-based couple sent out simple pieces like a striped sweater printed with a Pink Panther
character, or a gray sweatshirt with the words Bon Bon surrounded by swirling rainbows and
teamed with a yellow striped soft mini and printed, striped bag.
The show setting was superb- the Musee des Monuments Francais in the Palais de Chaillot.
As the models walked past and through medieval carved doorways and arches salvaged from French
cathedrals, their brightly colored clothes contrasted with the profusion of old stone.
Something as perfectly judged as silk crepe cocktail dress with an oyster satin collar was
jazzed up with totally desirable shoes, their front decorated with a mini carnival mask.
While anonymous pieces were not really part of the plan here, a cashmere tube top did have
its appliques kept to the side and flirty black dresses yoked lightly with color under
the bosom.
For those less color-inclined, rolled up and fastened shorts or cropped, fitted khaki jackets
with pockets and tabs will fit the bill nicely.
