NEW YORK, Sep 22, 2000/ FW/ --- It all started with a motorcycle trip during the 1980s. Dalmau brothers Custo and David went around
the world! They discovered different cultures and got fascinated by it.
Southern California, specifically
the surfers caught gave them such an impression - their way of life, setting their own trends, they were
"in fashion", but they were also out of it, and does not follow the whim of New York, London,
Paris nor Milan.
In short, the surfers had their own "fashion culture." It was quite innovative.
Upon their return to Spain, they started designing T-shirts, based on what they had seen, mixing images
and impressions. The designs were not "exact" replicas of a certain culture nor landscape. It
was how the Dalmau brothers saw it, juxtapositioned on print and silk screen.
The result, a T-shirt design that did not exist in Spain and on a certain level, nowhere in the world.
They called the label Custo of Barcelona, because it sounded more exotic than David of Barcelona. In time,
it just became Custo Barcelona.
First, it was a craze, caught in a wildfire. From Spain, they reached London and New York, now, it is all
over the world! It's no longer a wildfire fad which can be extinguished. It is now a steady flame with
still a lot of steam left for it to continue.
For Fall 2000, Custo Barcelona showed their signature design of fusing different cultures
into their impression.
