Fall 2001
|
A native of Hampshire, David Wyatt studied at Manchester Polytechnic and Portsmouth Art College.
He got his hands on experience with design while working for Alessandro dell'Acqua in Milan,
Marc Jacobs in New York and Thierry Mugler in Paris.
In early 1999, he launched his own label. He debuted at London Fashion Week scheduled show
during the Spring 2001 season.
David Wyatt brings back the elegance of the twentienth century with his designs while adding
his own interpretation on the fashion of those decades.
Fall 2001
South Fork in London
By Boyd Davis
Maybe its because David's last name is Wyatt, and he is aware of his namesake Marshall Wyatt Earp.
Or maybe, it's because David Wyatt once lived in the United States and is very aware that the
43rd President is from Texas. No matter what his reasons are, David Wyatt decided to go western
for Fall 2001.
It was like being at South Fork, (the setting for Dallas, the TV show). I almost expected to
see Victoria Principal to walk the runway. Definitely, the theme was western!
But, it is not just cowboy boots and hats. David Wyatt put his famous "modern twist and
elegance" to the western look.
First, it was a female Wyatt Earp, with blue and black boots, and black bolero jacket with
black slouchy pants. It was made to look feminine and elegant with detailing.
Even the bandana which are usually worn by cowboys on the range was not sacred. Paired with
a fur coat and black cigarette pants, you can walk into any restaurant and turn a lot of heads.
Definitely NOT urban cowboy, which is frowned upon in Texas. But this one would definitely be
a favorite by the Highland Park ladies with money to burn.
Feminine and elegant, David Wyatt interprets how life in the ranch can be transplanted in
the big city. Cowboy chic! Living in Texas, urban cowboys give a bad taste in my mouth. But
not this collection. David Wyatt's rendition of the western style gives it an elegant and
modern edge.
Sombre colors with splashes of red and white dominates the collection. Luxurious fabrics,
sexy silhouettes combined with body hugging styles make this collection a winner.
Lots of wearable clothes - from entertaining at home to going out for dinner, or receiving
dignitaries at the White House. I believe Laura Bush has a fan in London. After all, it looks
like David Wyatt is dressing the First Lady with his Fall 2001 collection. I think its time
to call Laura Bush's stylist and give David Wyatt's address.
Spring 2001
The Englishman in Italy, that is David Wyatt. Though he is a subject of the Queen, his creations
are manufactured by the Romans.
Spring 2001 is his first show for London Fashion Week. Nostalgia of the 1920s with the delicateness
and grace of the speak-easies and flapper. You almost expect to see the models enter the Cotton Club
with their long pearl necklaces!
Column dresses and slouchy trousers, preppy knits and long-sleeved dresses - if this was in New York,
I would say that the models are dressed for summer at Martha's Vineyard. But wait, do I hear strains
of the Charleston? Definitely nostalgia of the roaring 1920s.
