PARIS, Oct 5, 2005/ FW/ – Definitely the biggest surprise of the fashion season so far, John Galliano mastering nude minimalism for a spring summer 2006 collection that becomes accessible and not simply desirable.
In the newly renovated early 1900’s glass palace Palais Royale, John Galliano proved to the fashion world once and for all that less is more, producing a collection based on a simple concept of the nude.
Nude jeans, nude miniskirts, nude vests and nude shifts, Galliano for Dior needs nothing other than a piece of soft chiffon to prove his mastery.
Tailored jackets pinched at the waist and in the event of an evening affair nothing more than easy draping and the pinning of softness into place redefines simplicity and Galliano’s tailoring skill.
Sharon Stone as the new face of Dior sat front row to watch the mastery unfold in a celebration of unfussy preciousness. Bustiers are designed and drawn onto sleeveless tops further illustrated by beading in a caricature brought to life directly from his sketchbook.
Hints of pink and orange enrich skirts while large double breasted coats with big buttons stress architectural cutting and precise silhouettes for a collection that just goes to show that one should always expect the unexpected, especially when it involves Dior and the singular John Galliano.
