LOS ANGELES, Sep 23, 2005/ FW/ --- Once again, DKNY, one of the main lines under the Donna Karan label opted for a presentation during the New York Spring 2006 season.

There are a number of fashion journalists who do not like seeing the clothes on a mannequin during fashion week, and like the movement of a live model to be able to see how the outfit looks when worn.

FashionWindows take a different stand on this one simply because when customers are ready to buy these clothes, there are no live models. Instead, the mannequins on the sales floor or store window do the selling.

Yes, it is so much better to see how the clothes interact with the wearer to be able to do a critique. But we should not dismiss the selling power of these plastic sales people, otherwise known as mannequins.

Now, back to the collection shown…

With a different target market from Donna Karan (the main label), DKNY stands on its own for its youthful shapes and a more ‘casual’ silhouette. Case in point, the all white shorts and top set that featured pleats on a tunic blouse finished off with a sash to emphasize the waist.

Continuing on the sash theme, the blue sleeves dress, again with pleats and a sash for a belt will be considered ‘staples’ when March rolls around.

DKNY is all about comfort and versatility, the clothes more ‘functional’ than a fashion statement. And the DKNY Spring 2006 collection is doing just that.

It’s pretty; it’s cute and created more for function with a good base for the design. It does not sound very exciting. But, then again, that is what the Donna Karan collection, the main line will give the Donna Karan devotees.
