DALLAS, Nov 16, 2003/ FW/ --- Reese Witherspoon might not be sitting front row last September in New York during the Douglas Hannant show, but blonde members of New York’s social register were.
Renee Rockefeller, Valesca Guerrand-Hermès and Debbie Bancroft, who are all fans of the designer, were definitely there.
Sending models that were all blonde wearing pastels suits, cocktail dresses and gowns, it was like a parade of the 1980s small screen goddesses, which of course are all blondes.
Though probably not intentional, there were moments when the collection was reminiscent of ‘Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing and Falcon Crest,’ all prime time dramas during the 1980s that was all about wealth and grandeur.
Who can forget the blonde goddesses of the 1980s - Heather Lockear (Dynasty’s Sammy Jo), Linda Evans (Dynasty’s Krystle), Donna Mills (Knots Landing’s Abby Ewing) and Nicolette Sheridan (Knots Landing’s Paige Matheson).
But to say that the collection was inspired by the 1980s will be wrong. It’s soft colors and soft silhouettes are definitely from this decade.
The green tweed (which also came in blue) will be perfect to wear anywhere. The rose dress with a matching silk gazar coat was feminine, elegant and gorgeous – all rolled into one.
The gowns are a class by itself, an exercise in creating perfection. But we should not say that out loud, lest the gods hear it.
It is said that the gods of Olympus do not like it when mere mortals create perfection.
Though we might have a chance of not being the target of their wrath. Douglas Hannant’s blondes might not be Venus herself, but they sure look like minor deities of beauty themselves.
