NEW YORK, Feb 11, 2001/ --- Combative looks may have fought their way to the front lines of the Fall 2001 collections.
But if there's one designer who refuses to surrender to military chic, it's Diane Von
Furstenberg.
Last night at her fall runway show, Von Furstenberg stayed true to what it is she does
best - flirty and fitted.
The theme of the show, "secret rendez-vous," was played out in
romantic, body skimming dresses made from chiffon and silk, several versions of the iconic
wrap dress, and of course, plenty of eye-catching prints.
While the collection was signature Von Furstenberg, it was not without a twist. Putting a
seasonal spin on several looks, the designer contrasted her flowing fabrics with more
substantial ones like tweed, felt jersey and tartan.
To her preferred palette of bold,
bright colors Von Furstenberg added earthy tones like moss green and brown. In an ode to
fall foliage, she showed chiffon blouses, skirts and dresses printed with twigs, leaves and
willows.
The highlight of Von Furstenberg's collection came at the end of the show with a series of
fitted, off-the-shoulder jersey dresses.
When she took the runway for her final bow, the
newlywed designer wore a mini, cowl-neck dress in black that garnered enthusiastic praise
from the audience.
"I loved the final black dress," gushed Tori Spelling, who sat with her mother in the
front-row. "The whole show was awesome."
Spelling and her mother, bedecked in gravity-defying
jewels, said they are loyal fans of Von Furstenberg. Also sitting front-row were celebrity
guests Angie Harmon and Mary J. Blige.
