Belgian born Diane Michelle Halfin studied Economics in Madrid and she spoke 5 languages. When
she married Prince Egon Von Furstenberg, she became a Princess. When the couple immigrated to
the U.S. during the late 60s, they were the toast of the town and were invited to all the parties.
The Princess found herself designing clothes because she could not find from the stores what she
wanted to wear. And that was how the label Diane Von Furstenberg was born.
It started with her signature "wrap dress" during the 1970s. She graced the cover of
Newsweek after selling 5 million wrap dresses and she became the icon of the decade and the liberated
woman. The designer also launched her sucessful perfume and cosmetics lines.
She authored several books, including her memoirs, and Diane Von Furstenberg was not done yet. She
launched Silk Assets, a line of silk clothing which was exclusively sold on television. And once
again, she was in the thick of things in the fashion business. In the 1990s, there was a new
generation waiting and wearing her wrap dress, so the Princess is back on the runway once again,
sharing her design talent with the world.
