Though its name raises fears of fraud, this collection was an honest-to-God love affair
between a Spanish designer and the Union Jack.
Fake London's designer Desiree Mejer cut the British flag into cashmere knits, emblazoned
it across sweaters, stuck it on denim and even patterned it into a mink topcoat.
Tattered
Union Jacks even decorated a packed bar, where hundreds of fashionistas knocked back champagne
before the noon show.
Yet Mejer subverted pompous patriotism with a punk attitude featuring bondage trousers,
recycled cashmere twin sets, high heels with dog muzzles and minis with draped over-long
zippers or sleeves.
In a wildly amusing show, one model walked a friendly pit bull down the catwalk, while
another sauntered out for the finale drinking a glass of kir royale.
It was truly a funky
fashion moment with London It Girl Tara Palmer Tomkinson yelling at the models from the front
row and Rolling Stones muse Anita Pallenberg strutting her stuff on the runway of Bayswater's
Porchester Hall.
Done up with Rastafarian dreadlocks, Pallenberg looked alternatively eccentric in a matching
check bomber jacket and culottes and bizarre in a camouflage pantsuits.
This collection may not start a major trend, but it will certainly get its clientele into a
little trouble.
