MILAN, Oct 2, 2003/ FW/ --- During fashion weeks the world over, a secret war between PR
offices is going on to see who will fill star studded guest lists, and Giorgio Armani is
almost always on the top end as starlets fly in from all over the world to see his collections.
The staging of Emporio Armani spring summer 2004 collection yesterday in the maison’s mega
Bergonone Milan space was no exception as Beyonce Knowles and mom sat front row.
Beyonce seems to have a taste for Italian designers. The diva graced GF Ferre show in New York
two weeks ago and also wore a Versace couture on the red carpet during the recent MTV
Video Music Awards.
The top designer and top pop queen of the moment will meet again on October 15 in London
for the benefit of ‘Fashion Rocks’ for a live performance.
Naval and seafaring are still key influences, horizontal stripes, ringlets and large harness
hooks are both decoration and functional.
New for Armani however is his daring embrace with colour, bold and strong.
Red hints throughout and the use of highlighter fluorescent for both street and beachwear.
Also a hint or the 1960’s with geometric cuts and circular prints both large and small
on jackets and bathing costumes.
Two-tone double-breasted jackets that finish at the waist have exaggerated contrasting
buttons, while zips are centred and bi-directional.
Pants are mini shorts or baggy three quarter length gym style as are his mini skirts,
straight or pleated.
Mini strapless dresses are simple and body hugging and shiny, sparkling sequins were
a must both for day and night.
Armani proves nevertheless always to be feminine and classical even in his search for
freshness and crisp new modern wearable comforts.
