Giorgio Armani MILAN, Jun 28, 2006/ FW/ --- Vince Lombardi, one of the most successful coaches in the history of American football, once said, ‘Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing.’ Giorgio Armani paraphrased that on the catwalk, ‘Armani is not everything, it’s the only thing you need for Spring 2007.’

Because, when Spring 2007 rolls around, Giorgio Armani can fill your wardrobe and you will not need or want anything more. From trench coats to suit jackets, pullovers and cardigans, vests and shirts, long pants and shorts, there is a lot to choose from the collection.

Need loose-fitting trousers; with pleats and crease or just the traditional style, they come in several colors! Formal suits, including tuxedos and smoking jackets or just a casual suit for a day at the beach house and lunch, there is plenty to choose from.

Or maybe, you just need shorts to work on the deck of the yacht or a walk on the beach, well… there are the walking shorts in stripes or solids.

Giorgio Armani did not miss anything, from the leather bomber jackets made of treated leather, to the blouson and golf tees. There are messenger bags and totes, formal shoes and sneakers, even slip-ons that match your silk pajamas.

Some would say that the collection, beautiful as it was is a commercial move by Armani to dominate the menswear market. But, it is more than that. Giorgio Armani, who is already in his 70s is as prolific as a designer as ever. Launching his haute couture line just 2 years back, he demonstrated that he still has and will continue to have a competitive edge for a long time.

Hence, Coach Lombardi’s famous quote, ‘Winning is not everything, it’s the only thing,’ applies than just the collection. For a very long time now, that quote has exemplified a form of unfettered competitiveness that has permeated American sport and carried over into the general culture.

Of course, Giorgio Armani is Italian, but no one has ever said that Americans have the monopoly on competitiveness. With the World Cup still undecided, Italy and in turn, the Italians have focused on winning the much-coveted championship.

Giorgio Armani is very familiar with soccer football. He is currently dressing Team England. Perhaps, the competitive edge of the sport has taken hold of the Italian design maestro in more ways than one.

Whatever it is, what he just showed on the catwalk just proves that is a master of his craft and likes to win. And at the risk of using another famous quote, isn’t it that ‘The winner takes it all!’
