MILAN, Sep 25, 2006/ FW/ --- Less than a week after presenting a star-studded show in London for Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani unveiled the Spring / Summer 2007 collection for his main line, sending a mainly monochrome set that played on the multiple variants of the suit jacket.
Relaxed fitting trousers that are slightly gathered on the beltline and faintly low-waisted will be the main fare of the Giorgio Armani lady next spring when it comes to pants dressing.
And then, she has a wide range to choose from when it comes to suit jackets that ranged from snug-fitting and cropped just below the waistline to a bias-cut cape inspired ensemble that although it was based on menswear silhouette, it is feminine with its uneven hemline and no buttons on the placket.
There is also the double-breasted two-button variety with wide lapel. Then, there is the single-breasted type with two buttons, collarless and cut at the waist to emphasize the woman’s figure, ending at the thighs with a rounded hemline.
This is Giorgio Armani in his element, the designer who has never ceased to amaze his audience and continues to reinvent himself for the past four decades.
In this collection, his play on texture and volume once again redefined the Giorgio Armani label, separate from Emporio Armani shown in London, and a different style the designer’s haute couture line, Giorgio Armani Privé.
Perhaps, the designer’s decision to move Emporio Armani to London is for the better. Though its absence is definitely being felt here in Milan this season, the two labels being unveiled in different geographical locations made it independent from each other.
In some ways, both labels blossomed and grew, though this is the first season that they are away from each other.
Going back to the Giorgio Armani collection unveiled today here in Milan, shawls as an added element made the looks more feminine. Still, with the hat as a must-have accessory, the resulting look is edgy.
Speaking of accessories, the shoes and bags shown will delight Armani fans in whatever age group they are in. From snakeskin to beaded leopard spots to ethnic designs, the totes and clasps are perfect complements to this perfectly coherent collection.
