March 19, 2002/ FW/ --- Celebrating its 16th season at 7th on Sixth (Yes, Virginia, Girls Rule
is sweet sixteen), Girls Rule gave a mini-concert before their runway show.
Savage Garden's Darren Hayes (who's coming out with a solo album) performed his new single
"Insatiable."
But Darren Hayes' serenade did not come without a price. The show was 45 minutes late, which
is way too late even with the accepted 15-minute tardiness of most runway presentations.
But if your market is for teens, then the show was worth the wait!
Presenting 7 designers this season - Dollhouse, Stephen Hardy's Squeeze, Glo, Love Life,
Planet Yumthing, Smashing Grandpa and the much awaited debut of Fuman Skeeto, the new
teen line by *NSYNC member Chris Kirkpatrick, the show was totally "teen spirit." (That
last part totally sounds like a cliche!)
So what's in store for the teen market?
The gospel according to Girls Rule says - denim, denim, denim, plus the current trends of
Americana and romantic styles.
And if the school districts accross America agrees, most of the teen girls will be navel-baring
and boot clad this Fall semester.
We have to wait several months if the school superintendents and Girls Rule designers are
on the same sheet of music.
