MILAN, Jan 19, 2007/ FW/ --- Suits with fur collar, windbreakers with fur collar, winter boots covered with fur, bombers made of fur and lined with fur, and of course, the big fur coats… Gucci is preparing for a very cold winter with several inches of snow in the city, in the country and in the Alps.
Trousers, whether for formal wear or jeans are slim and quilted at the knee, perhaps as a protection if there is a mishap in the snow. Still, how can one slide if they are wearing the Gucci winter boots? Proposed in varying lengths – ankle to mid calf – the shoes are laced up, the sole with deep traction, diminishing the chance of sliding on ice.
Everything seem to be oversized, but remember, snow gear is usually that way simply because one has to make room for the bulk sweaters and layers of clothes, which of course, Giannini did not forget.
A form fitting hooded sweater with graphical print is worn over turtlenecks in vibrant solids or stripes. V-neck vests and cardigans are suggested as other options instead of the black anorak, shearling jackets and Formula1-inspired ski jacket.
And, if you’re wondering if Giannini forgot eveningwear, she did not. There are the animal skin smoking jackets and velvet tuxedos.
It’s hedonism, winter style. While other designers went for restraint, Frida Giannini went the opposite, going over the top.
