NEW YORK, Nov 9, 2003/ FW/ --- If another fashion grouse says that New York Fashion Week is too commercial and never artistic, just point them to Halston to disprove that claim.
Bradley Bayou (photo at left), designing for Halston presented last September at the Royalton Hotel an exquisite, and poetic collection that was truly a work of art.
Showing a small and very focused collection (20 pieces) to a very select crowd, reminiscent of the old couture days when shows were held at the designer’s atelier or salon, Bradley Bayou captured the essence of Halston --- seductive and glamorous eveningwear intermixed with casual and chic daywear.
The butter yellow stretch wool crepe suit with lizard inset and belt and the silver and white leather pleated suit redefined the meaning of “power suit.”
A woman does not have to look “manly” to sit in the boardroom. She can be as feminine as she can be, and not be a wilting violet either, that is what these day dresses are saying.
Another great thing about these suits, the ladies who lunch will also love them, specially the silver and white silk brocade suit, which gives the aura of old Hollywood chic and allure.
All the evening gowns are worthy of a red carpet appearance, whether it’s Nicole Kidman at the Oscars or Beyoncé Knowles at the Grammys.
The detailing, workmanship and craftsmanship on all of them are so exquisite; it is really hard to choose which one is the most memorable.
The pink laser cut party dress with pleated bodice was created using the old Chinese “senshi” art.
Instead of using the traditional sharp knife, laser cutting was used because the fabric is thinner and more fragile than paper. The design is also very intricate that only the precision cut of a certain laser cutting machine in Switzerland can do it.
“The whole collection is all about a beautiful woman,” Bradley Bayou told FW.
When asked about the exquisiteness of all the designs, Bradley Bayou answered, “Details… details… details… It’s quality workmanship and handwork. Every woman deserves that.”
And his guests agreed with him. Most of the attendees belonging to New York’s social register. They nodded and smiled as each model stopped at their request so that they can examine the clothes.
It will not be surprising if the whole collection was sold out right there and then because Bradley Bayou definitely delivered a winner.
