Jil Sander: Sensual

Milan, Jun 16, 2002/FWD/ --- Three seasons into his reign as designer at Jil Sander,
Milan Vukmirovic whipped up a sensual collection for the label in his most coherent
performance for the house to date.
Vukmirovic’s best idea this season was reworking classic pieces by using inventive fabrics
and pretty, almost feminine, colors.
Take a topcoat, cut like a trench with echoes of Gucci, but make it in light blue herringbone –
that’s the kind of fresh approach Vukmirovic brings to his clothes.
Milan also continues successfully to exploit the Prada group’s prowess in footwear. The
collection he showed in September had the best footwear of any women’s label last season,
and the men’s shoes he showed Tuesday in Milan were great, too.
The Puma-style sneakers in gray and black will be bestsellers, as will the white revamped
tennis shoes.
The show touched on most of the key trends in Italy this season: Alpine geometric sweaters,
velvet tuxedos, hipster cargo pants and Astrakhan coats.
The collection also played with the return of “let’s not beat about the bush” luxury,
flaunting a black cashmere sweater with a black mink front.
Fashion has taken a hit these past six months, quality hasn’t.
