MILAN, Jan 17, 2004/ FW --- Last Monday saw the return of Jil Sander, nicknamed “Queen of German Fashion,” on the menswear runway with a beguiling Fall 2004 collection that reminded everyone why she is a great designer.
Known for her minimalist style, Jil Sander proposed a very masculine and sophisticated look this coming fall.
Decisive cuts and impeccable tailoring ruled the day, from leather jackets, long woolen coats, comfortable fit pants and trench coats.
The Milan season which has been dominated by sports and hedonism, Jil Sander begged to differ with her clean and simple cuts that are sure to be bestsellers for the distinguished gentlemen who rule both the corporate boardroom and city streets.
And for an industry that worships a youthful look, Jil Sander’s collection is very inclusive. Any Gen X or Gen Y would look good in it, including the baby boomers, and dare I say the men inside the Washington beltway.
Jil Sander even gave the denizens of Silicon Valley something to ponder upon – an updated golf shirt look that even Bill Gates and Steve Jobs can wear in Las Vegas during the next Consumer Electronics Show when they present the latest gadgets.
In short, this collection just made the fashion flock realized what they were missing in menswear when Jil Sander took a two-year sabbatical – great clothing without an attitude.
And when the designer took a bow from a very appreciative audience who gave her a thunderous applause, she returned a modest appreciative smile.
Welcome back Jil Sander!
