DALLAS, Nov 26. 2003/ FW/ --- Last season, Jill Stuart went for the “Age of Innocence” and almost missed the mark. For Spring 2004, she went for “Innocent Glamour” and hit it right on target.
Shown last September in New York, Jill Stuart’s Spring 2004 collection is frilly and feminine with a generous dash of downtown attitude thrown in.
From the body hugging skirt and midriffs, to the Capri-length pants paired with blouses embellished with tiny ruffles, it was a trip down memory lane of the glamorous 1950s when Marilyn Monroe was the reigning screen goddess.
Though her spirit was in the collection in the form of the 1950s inspired swimsuits she was well known for wearing so well, Marilyn Monroe’s sultry looks were wisely put on the wayside by Jill Stuart to come up with a very focused and tight collection.
Layered skirts and sheered mini dresses, all looking innocent and sweet were sent on the runway, creating an aura of allure yet chaste.
These words might sound like they are antonyms, but that is the beauty of the collection. Jill Stuart was able to project them in one collection, without losing focus.
Flowing chiffon, old-fashioned lace, tiny ribbons and ruffles created the look of modesty, but the low V necklines, midriffs and mini skirts gave a sexy ambiance.
So, the next question is… when will these clothes hit the store shelves?
