Choo's New Shoe

New York, Feb 9, 2001/ FWD/ --- When Madonna sought the perfect shoes for her wedding and the Bush twins wondered what to wear to the Inaugural Ball, they all relied on the same brand to anchor them on their most important day: Jimmy Choo.

At the preview for the shoemaker's Fall 2001 collection in New York this Friday, designer Sandra Choi presented a magnificent collection of couture quality.

For next fall, Choi finds her inspiration in the personal style of Coco Chanel. In a departure from the gold and colorful pieces of Summer 2001, Choi turns to refined neutrals. Her Coco range includes classic black pumps with white trimmings or a white camellia, tweed slingbacks with red leather trimmings and beige pumps with contrasting chocolate insets and straps.

"This time things are more linear -- like the style Coco was known for -- not very flowery," Choi told FWD. "Literally, everything has been done in the last few seasons and people are confused about what color to wear. I think it will be more and more about clever dressing -- tastefully mixing cheaper items with more expensive things."

The pale pink and beige silk/satin boots and pumps adorned with black lace stripes are breathtaking. The pumps made of Chinese-patterned silk or with hand-painted Chinese-inspired motifs will clearly be bestsellers. Choi also pays tribute to another style icon: Audrey Hepburn. The designer's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" series includes delicate pumps and sandals in pastels with a darker-shaded bauble used as an accent.

Choi's boots, a must-have among the fashion set, show a mix of influences spanning from the late 19th century to the 1960s. There's a black Victorian corset boot, teetering between romantic and dominatrix, a two-toned beige boot with leather cut into geometric patterns. And for those who don't have Sarah Jessica Parker's calves, Choi offers strips of stretch fabric between the leather, for a forgiving fit.

Finally, there's the "Oscar collection," a series of slinky killer sandals with crystal-embroidered straps. Hilary Swank, who wore Choos to last year's Oscars, has already been in the store trying them on for the BAFTA awards.
