John Varvatos: Successful Milan Debut

MILAN, Jun 27, 2003 /FW/ --- John Varvatos debuted successfully in Milan with his men's
2004 spring / summer collection.
After Lauren (for whom Varvatos was once professionally connected, as well as Calvin Klein)
decided not to show in Milan, his space in the calendar was grabbed up by the Varvatos
team due to the success he received in Florence a year ago at Pitti.
He, too is 'Made In Italy' as most of the best American mens designers, sourcing here in Italy,
and it is easy to see as elegant cuts mould to the male shape.
To show in Milan is 'the top' according to the Greek American who decided to leave the
catwalks of New York and head for those here in Milan.
He presented a modern, romantic collection that included high quality fabrics ranging
from suede goatskin, hemp, silk and linen.
He showed three quater length suede goatskin jackets, nappa trenches and suede blazers.
Suits are tailored but not for the short as jackets fall long past the waist.
Playing on the silhouette, thin and elegant, tuxedo's vary from dark to light with a
towelling polo underneath for a different look and trousers are cut like jogging pants.
Having won two years running the prestigious award from the Council of Fashion Designers
of America, Varvatos has a super bright career ahead of himself, even if not a leading
path-breaker, he certainly will fill the orders worldwide with his dress to impress looks.
