NEW YORK, Oct 23, 2002/ FW/ --- Celebrating his fifth season in New York, Paris-based designer
Lloyd Klein, who is also known for his dramatic collections decided to go 'sporty' this season.
His Spring 2003 show held last September at the legendary Studio 54 was a study in balance and
measured elegance with references to the romanticand the nostalgic.
Using white, black and blue for his basic color palette, the designer sent athletic-inspired
double tuxedo stripes down the sleeve and leg.
The double tux stripe showed up on both men's and women's coats, giving them a very sporty look.
Satin Polka dot linings and sewn raw edges were used to add drama.
Thoug the look was sporty, Lloyd Klein designed feminine black and navy chiffon blouses and
parachute style flowing evening trousers for the women.
For men, he presented his take on casual but evening-wearable open neck embroidered shirts and
linen pants.
For the finale, the designer’s muse Paris Hilton wore a white leather and organza wedding dress, Lloyd
Klein's take on a 'sporty' wedding.
It was a very tight, focused and strong collection.
Special this season is the introduction of men's underwear.
Unfortunately, you cannot find Lloyd Klein's underwear in stores yet, according to John Arguelles,
U.S. Brand Director.
"Lloyd Klein has always wanted to do underwear, and he did it this season," Mr. Arguelles
told FW after the show.
"But you and I know that designing a line is just half the battle. The other half is finding
the right business partner - manufacturer and distributor, before it can be in store shelves,"
Mr. Arguelles continued.
If the runway show was just to test the market's reaction, then it was very positive, judging
from the ooh's and aahs by both the male and female audience.
Watch out Calvin, your namesake might give you a run for your money!
