Sep 5, 2002/ FW/ --- Celebrating his fifth season at New York Fashion Week, Lloyd Klein
chose the legendary club Studio 54 to show his Spring 2003 collection at 4pm on Friday,
September 20, 2002.
After scouring all of Manhattan for the perfect venue, the private upstairs space at Studio
54 was the perfect fit for the upcoming press show.
Lloyd Klein wanted an intimate setting where he could create an atmosphere of escape
and fantasy for a collection inspired by, “measured elegance with references to the
romantic and the nostalgic.”
The Paris and L.A.-based designer whose long list of clients includes Pink, Paula Abdul,
Jessica Simpson and Asia Argento if fast becoming designer to the stars in Hollywood.
Joan Rivers, Melannie Griffith, Natasha Hendstridge, Ally Landry, Bai Ling, Phoebe Price and
James Franco have been spotted wearing Lloyd Klein's creations.
Celebrities and consumers alike have a hard time resisting the precious
cashmere and mink blend fabrics in cobalt blue pinstripe, gray flannel and black cool
wool crepe.
Using a new tailoring technique the designer calls “coupe franc” (raw cut),
dark gray jackets bursting with shocking pink frayed edges and navy blue separates marked
by blood orange accents were created by impregnating separate layers of fabric at the seams
to insinuate a bleeding effect.
The designer attributes the inspiration for this new tailoring method to the “raw and frayed”
emotions that followed the horrible events of Sept 11th.
Lloyd Klein plans to continue with this new technique in the upcoming collections.
