DALLAS, Apr 7, 2005/ FW/ --- With the changing U.S. demographics, Marc Jacobs for his diffusion line ‘Marc’ decided that eclectic is good and you know what… it works!
Targeted for a younger consumer base, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2005 collection recognized the fact that the Echo boomers in general want individuality in their style of dressing.
“They make their own trends and they spot a trend very fast, also,” said CBS’ ‘60 Minutes’ in their segment about the Echo Boomer generation aired last March.
Probably, Marc Jacobs is reading the same market trend analysis because he put his finger on the pulse of this new generation that is emerging as the new economic force in the U.S., as their parents, the youngest baby boomers reach middle age.
Balloon skirts in graphical prints rolled at the hem came in different permutations as Marc Jacobs found the right mix.
Windbreakers came in cotton or high-tech fabric and for fun, they were done in color blocks with a ballooned hemline that came all the way to the knees.
Then Marc Jacobs turned around to bring back the 1980s leggings and just to be naughty, he made the hose all torn up! Gosh, what would your mother say if she sees you wearing hose with holes?
And in a season of volume, Marc Jacobs decided that down-filled coats should be oversized but cinched at the waist with a belt to show your slender figure.
Switching back and forth from voluminous to slim silhouettes, Marc Jacobs came out with several cute pieces like the long-sleeved scarf top with a jewel neckline with a cummerbund belt worn with a cigarette pants.
And there is the short-cropped 6-button snug-fitting jacket that can be worn with a skirt, jeans or pants.
Marc Jacobs did not forget accessories either – totes and handbags for the guys and gals. But the best accessories are the shoes – brightly colored Cowboy-inspired boots, metallic soft leather that can be crinkled and worn with leg warmers and of course, designer sneakers which is the big rage among tweens, teens and twenty-something right now.
With so many influences seen in the collection, it can only be described as eclectic. What pulled it together is the celebration of the new youth quake that is happening right before our very eyes.
