LONDON, Feb 18, 2003/ FW/ --- With a cryptic title 'Love Is Stronger Than Death', it
was hard to decide whether designer Maria Chen-Pascual was referring to the goth elements of
her Fall 2003 collection or the big anti-war rally happening at Hyde Park last Saturday.
An American-expat living in London, it is really hard not to voice an opinion when
your native country is planning to go to war.
But as we all know, collections are made well-in advance, and the title of her
collection might just as well be a coincidence.
But one thing is sure about Maria Chen-Pascual's Fall 2003 collection, she showed
some very experimental pieces which are very eye-catching.
Known for her textile-development prowess, the designer worked with tissue-thin jersey,
turning them into delectable mini-length dresses.
So, how does one keep warm during those cool autumn nights?
Wear them with a trench coat made of thick black satin or a muted gray biker jacket.
Even the men's clothes were not spared of the fabric treatment experimentation.
Men will be wearing knee-length distressed leather coat and ultra fine jersey knits
over-printed with silver foil.
One word to describe it - cool!
Notable were the shoes, a result of the designer's collaboration with Beatrix Ong and
Italian company Belstaff.
I have only one question - when will these boots be available in the stores because
I surely would like to own a pair.
