Apr 8, 2002/ FW/ --- With a theme like "Winter In Mexico," make-up artist Ozzy decided to go for
the sultry looks of the Mexican senorita.
Emphasizing the eyes using dark kohl, the effect was stunning - soulful eyes associated with
the beautiful women who hail from south of the border.
Hairstyle was the traditional chignon, making the total look a little bit more formal than usual
for Mark Montano's shows.
When asked if he wanted to be different this season, Mark answered, "No, not really. It was the
theme of the collection that made the looks of the models different."
"I was in Mexico attending a friend's wedding. The colorful costumes and the beautiful women
wearing them gave me inspiration for the show," Mark told FW after the show.
"I asked myself, 'What if snowed here?' and the result is what you saw on the runway."
"Did you choose a Mexican theme this season because you know that FIT will do an exhibit about
Latin American designers?" we asked Mark.
"It was just a coincidence," Mark answered with a smile.
If you missed Mark Montano's show last February, you can see some of his work in person at the
Fashion Institute of Technology's latest exhibition, "Latin American Style:
Exploring Identities on the New York Runway," which showcases the role of Latin
designers in fashion.
Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Narciso Rodriguez, Isabel Toledo, Adolfo, Mark Montano,
Elisa Jimenez, Angel Sanchez and Edmundo Castillo are highlighted in this exhibition.
The show runs until April 13 at the Museum at FIT located at Seventh Avenue at 27th Street in
New York, NY. For more information please call: 217-5800
