Mark Montano: Circus Housewife
By Mari Davis

Dec 31, 2000/FW/ --- The question that Mark Montano asked his audience for his Spring 2001 collection is "What if a housewife ran off with the circus?"

Wacky? Yes!

Out of the ordinary? Yes!

Was it a great collection? Yes!

With that in mind, Mark Montano sent models on the runway wearing clothes that are downright wearable, to clothes that connotes that the housewife had joined the circus!

The "housewife" started with a semi-conservative, yet fashionable with clothes you can go to church with, attend tea parties and go to dinner and cocktails.

As the storyline built up on the runway, the "conservative housewife" was slowly transformed into a modern woman wearing sleek clothes.

She goes to watch the circus, and eventually runs away with them, her clothes starts becoming a little wacky each time.

And then she finally "joins" the circus with her "blue shorts and bare midriff top," probably working as an assistant to a magician.

And in the end, she is transformed into a female Peter Pan!

This collection showed Mark Montano's range as a designer - from very wearable clothes, which are almost on the side of conservative, to sleek designs and then to the very theatrical!

Montano worked on a theme, built it up and like a tableau, told a story on the runway on what happened to the "housewife."

Considering that the show only lasted 20 minutes max, weaving the yarn so to speak using clothes and models was a great accomplishment.
