NEW YORK, Sep 21, 2002/ FW/ --- Mark Montano's Spring 2003 "Flights of Fancy"
collection took off with models donning claw-like fingernails and adopting
birdlike mannerisms.
Each of the 40 looks was named after a feathered friend
and in true Montano style, some were directly related to the theme while others
less literal in a collection that walked that thin line between costume and
wearable fashion.
"Pale Bellied Spring Goose" was an intriguing mulit-colored
fringe Ultrasuede halter dress.
The saleable "Tahitian Ladybird" was a blue and
gray silk charmeuse dress which buttoned up the front.
Blouson shapes appeared
as tops and puffy skirts.
Corsets and cummerbunds cinched waists.
The best of
show were the dotted chiffon and black striped dresses which were more graphic
and stood out from the rest of the uber-colorful garments that walked the
runway.
