DALLAS, Dec 2, 2003/ FW/ --- London-based designer Matthew Williamson started showing his collection in New York since the Fall 2002 season. Response to his signature of modern pieces, which are colorful and intricately detailed, had been phenomenal.
And though he continues to keep his headquarters in London, Matthew Williamson is fastly becoming well known in the American fashion scene.
With offices in both New York and Los Angeles, his foothold into the U.S. market gets stronger as each season passes.
Known for his unique color sense and exquisite embroidery and beading, Matthew Williamson has a long list of celebrity clients – Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, to name a few.
He continually gets inspiration from everything things, and translates them into beautiful pieces full of life and color.
Case in point is his Spring 2004 collection shown last September in New York. Ostrich feathers were incorporated as prints in skirts, blouses and gowns.
It was then embroidered on jackets and tops, together with butterflies and flowers.
Black, white and gray were the canvas, and with a generous dash of electric blue and bright pink, the whole collection became a burst of colors, which was truly pleasing to the eyes.
Memorable pieces included the all white ensemble that Karolina Kurkova wore – a white jacket with fuchsia piping at the sleeves, white long-sleeved shirt with front pockets and a white pair of stovepipe trousers. A thin fuchsia belt finished off the look.
The look was deceptively simple, yet very refreshing and perfect for summer.
Also notable were the handbags, which are colorful and functional.
