With Hollywood busy with its red carpet glamour for awards ceremonies, Michael Kors took a different path, going back to the college campus perhaps with expanding the demographics of his label in mind.

Opening with male and female models, in what is an obvious riffle to campus life with Daria wearing a striped jersey dress and long coat, the male model wearing an oversized striped scarf, the message was clear – this was a youthful collection for the echo boomers, Gen X and Gen Y.

There was a 1970s feel to it contributed by the pear-shaped sunglasses, vests worn over paisley printed shirts and dresses that featured ruffles on both the sleeves and hemlines.

But Michael Kors immediately changed his silhouettes to more classic lines sending male models in boxy outer coats and suit jackets and the female models wearing dresses with cowl necklines in above the knee dresses that sometimes feature asymmetrical hemlines.

Fur was added on knitted long coats, and of course, since this Michael Kors, fur coats for both men and women made their appearance. The collection might have a young target market but it still has the signature opulence and luxe appeal of Michael Kors.

The New York-based designer kept the silhouettes slim – pencil thin trousers, figure hugging gowns, and snug fitting short-cropped jackets for women.

The men got a more relaxed fit, but tummies are still a big no-no especially with the double-breasted suit jackets, pullovers and knitted vests.

But, Michael Kors cannot stay away from the red carpet after all, ending the show with a black chiffon halter gown with encrusted crystals.

Looking at the front row, Hilary Duff, Nicole Ritchie and Debra Messing were watching closely. If they choose to wear it, we will of course know all about it on national TV!
