LONDON, Sep 25, 2004/ FW/ – Michiko Koshino did not hold anything back for this collection. Gaining a lot of her inspiration from Africa, the show had so many high points…
Models sporting bleach blonde dred locks hitting the runway to African drums mixed with a techno beat set an atmosphere for the show.
This collection was all about accessories including large gold and silver hoop earrings, rope wedge sandals and over the top gold neckpieces. The garments are definitely suitable for a summer on the coasts of Africa.
Halter-tops, baby doll dresses and tulle hoop skirts in brown and black aligned the catwalk for the first looks of the show. The show moved on to turquoise tulles, sleeveless vest and linen loincloth dresses. Red and white large polka dots along with traditional African prints adorned bikinis as well as head wraps.
A feathered black and white paper mache dress stunned the audience as Alek Wek worked the runway in it. In spite of Koshino's ready to wear roots, this collection had a very advent-garde vibe and demonstrated unrestrained creativity…
The show went more commercial by showing orange and polka dot dresses reminiscent of Ossie Clarks 70's cuts. Of course the show could not conclude that way.
The last garment was a real ball gown that was adorned with actual balls around the entire garment revealing the models white bikini bottoms.
London's style and outrageous creativity is not dead yet....
