LONDON Sep 22, 2004/ FW/ --- One can almost always be assured that London’s fashion week will be full of floral, prints and prettiness. So it is no surprise that the romantic and essential Nicole Farhi gave a sweet summer 2005 collection with a 1950’s twist.
Fit for an English garden party in spring, the London based designer that chooses Milan for her menswear, yet sticks to being part of the ‘best of British’ clad for womenswear accentuates waists and the female silhouette through softness and fluidity.
Delicate summer dresses with layered skirts flow in colorful print, letting hemlines fall slightly below the knee, accept for a few pairs of comfortable shorts and floral bathing cossies.
Denim is and integral part of the Farhi look, yet always feminine and delicate, from tailored jackets to rolled up jeans, while jodhpur style trousers not only recall British hunting traditions, they are casual and allow for play in the cool of the summer shade.
An easy, casual collection that at the same time is full of subtle detail, making it rich and precise. Edges are often embroided, striped knit is super thin in the lightest cashmere and decorative finishes appear on tops and skirts before passing to evening party dresses where ruffles and tiers are a must.
Nicole Farhi is skilled and sensitive, ladylike and proper, presenting a collection that is unhurried and timelessly charming.
