MILAN, Jun 28, 2006/ FW/ --- At the Nicole Farhi showroom, it was like walking into the modern Renaissance man’s closet wherein his clothes are defined by his personal style and transcend trends.
Continuing the elegance and modishness she started during the Fall 2006 season, when Nicole Farhi’s muse was a young Alain Delon; for Spring 2007, the London-based designer was inspired by the artists of today – actors, directors and architects, wherein ease-of-dressing is first and foremost without comprising style.
Staying true to her designer philosophy of comfortable, relaxed clothing with an emphasis on soft structure, subtle coloring and fine-quality fabric, Nicole Farhi created a wardrobe of unstructured work wear and military-inspired jackets that would and could fit into any social setting.
Suit jackets are in the traditional pinstripes, but instead of buttons, large poppers were used. Trousers were relaxed and interpreted in textured line, cotton sateen and Butchers stripes.
And as always, with Nicole Farhi’s creations, the individual pieces are rich both in texture and details, such as cuffs and collars defined by compact embroidery, giving it an edgy, raw feel, but everything fits within the fine finishing.
Long sleeved crewneck tees in microstripes and shirts with stylized frangipani flowers are paired with different washes of denim jeans. Nicole Farhi thought of everything that a man would need including silk scarves and bags.
And, she was not done yet. Last season, she launched the Nicole Farhi Homme perfume. This season, Nicole Farhi Femme entered the market. Inspired by her travels, from architectures and antiques, these fragrances are special, mysterious, complex and immediately obvious.
Like Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca who wanted to bottle memories and smell them like perfume, Nicole Farhi did exactly that.
‘With these new fragrances, I set out simply to capture to essence of the most precious moments from my life,’ Nicole Farhi said describing her fragrance line.
Still, Nicole Farhi’s big surprise this season is the ‘Bombay Farhini,’ a new cocktail concocted by the designer for Bombay Sapphire. Creating a new drink is actually a logical step for Farhi. After all, her newly opened restaurant in New York is the latest ‘in’ place to be among the fashion set and metro dwellers.
And Nicole Farhi’s comment on the success of her restaurant, ‘I just wanted to build something that everyone would enjoy.’
Well, she need not worry, according to word-of-mouth news; her restaurant is ‘the’ place to be!
