DALLAS, Dec 21, 2000/ FW/ --- Paul Smith is a self-taught designer, starting as a gofer when he was 18 and then a Boutique Manager
at 20. In 1970, he opened his own shop and in 1976 started his own label.
Starting as a menswear designer, the company has expanded to womenswear and accessories. In almost three
decades of existence, Paul Smith has remained an integral part of his company. He continues to design
the clothes and still be take part in managing his company.
For Spring 2001, Paul Smith showed his trademark "Expect the unexpected!" The swimwear collection
ranged from animal to floral prints to solid colors in monochromatic tones. Colors are both bold and subdued,
resulting to an eclectic collection.
The daywear and evening wear collections also provided an "unexpected" of colors and design influence.
Taking from the 1960's, the 1970s and the 1980s, floral prints and stripes abound with splashes of the Paul
Smith Logo t-shirts and the bush jacket updated for the new millennium.
