Fashion week isn’t fashion week without one mad show for drama. And the Pelle Pelle show did just this. Designer Marc Buchanan threw a sometimes cheesy, sometimes eighties totally over-the-top-show but theater it was! Smart ‘street’ wear with iridescent and sharkskin denims and the tiger logo splashed large over bomber jackets were sort of ‘eclectic deejay’ looks. Music ‘turntable’ bags were slung across the body as accessories.

One or two women’s looks punctuated an endless stream of gym toned muscled African-American models. Some of the denim with interesting twists like the canary yellow stitching was new and small children modeled cute miniature outfits. Sadly the ‘street’ look has still not really steered away from the big oversized, over-exaggerated denim basics but I couldn’t help myself liking an ice blue bomber jacket with the Pelle logo as it looked ‘upmarket street’ in this color.

Models came out in large groups so it was near to impossible to write notes, you just had to watch the theater of parading topless men and gimmicks like the body-painted T-shirt. At the pinnacle of the show, a live black tiger padded out with a trainer as a female model swanked down in a patent leather tiger body wrap and burnished mini-skirt.

The low point of the show were the brightly colored 80’s inspired velour sweat suits, so weak that half way down the runway the models removed the tops to bare their chests. The verdict on this marathon production? A show with great spirit, even if you were not a fan of the clothes.
