DALLAS, Jan 2, 2001 / FW/ --- The New York Fashion Week Menswear Show has been shrinking for the past several years! Before, it was
its own show, much the same way as Paris and Milan. It used to last five days. Now it is down to two!
Great news for Ralph Lauren fans! The designer decided to hold a menswear show via an installation at
Four Season's Restaurant.
So what is an installation? It's a show wherein models do not walk on the runway. Rather, they stand
in the middle of the room while the buyers and the press mill around.
But they do not act like living mannequins who can hold their pose for a long time. The models actually
move, even converse with the press/buyers if need be. And they need to emote, much the same way as they are
in the runway.
For the Spring 2001 Menswear Show, Ralph Lauren presented his high end line Purple Label and Polo Ralph
Lauren collections.
For the classic Polo Ralph Lauren line, it was an updated preppy look in the vibrant colors of Spring. And
as always, you find the slim polo shirts and cable sweaters designed for the look of the season.
Purple Label, a new line by Ralph Lauren has been making a splash in men's fashion. For Spring 2001,
it had soft natural shoulders, sculpted waists and a slightly Art Deco era feel. Lightweight linens
(either in black or white) look comfortable for the summer heat.
