NEW YORK, Feb 10, 2005/ FW/ --- A mixture of European and naval uniform inspired aesthetics, Rebecca Taylor continues to woo a very youthful clientele with whom she had been very successful in providing their fashion needs since she launched her own label.
With the invitation featuring an artic wolf in the front, which was recreated on her press notes and on the backdrop of the runway, the Cynthia Rowley expat prepared the audience for a collection meant for the dropping temperatures of autumn and winter.
Opening with a chocolate velvet blazer with wool plaid skirt followed by a wool plaid empire coat with velvet pants, Rebecca Taylor set the tone on a Victor/Victoria theme sending models wearing cracker jack pants and tuxedo tails while alternating with layered skirts and bustier tops inspired by the customary French maid uniform.
Giving a nod to this season’s trends of following Madame Vionett and Paul Poiret’s aesthetics, she then sent bias cut skirts that are sometimes pleated and of course, empire waist dresses, blouses and jackets, and a few hobble skirts that are less constricting than what Paul Poiret envisioned during the turn of the 20th century.
Details include lace and covered buttons and costume jewelry made with Swarovski crystals.
Breaking new grounds with military inspired look, Rebecca Taylor changed the look of the Navy pea coat, making it into an empire waist 6-button double-breasted jacket with small pleats at the side that almost gave it a sheered look.
Wearable, beautiful and pleasing to the eyes, don’t be surprised if you see Rebecca Taylor’s creations at college campuses and places where the 20-something generation, otherwise known as the echo boomers, hang out.
