Roland Mouret: Born to the World of Design

French-born designer Roland Mouret used to be a stylist and art director before he launched his own label in 1998 and made his debut at London Fashion Week on-schedule show during the Fall 2000 season.

A master of draping and fold, Roland Mouret has impressed fashionistas and the press corps with his with his "cut without pattern" approach in his designs.

A touch of ease and haughty glamour, he creates clothes which look "accidental" in its detail.

A pin would hold the material together to make the top, or a brooch would hold a skirt, runching it and make it body hugging.

Known for his sophisticated and very grown-up collections, Roland Mouret's creations are very eye-catching and sensual. Combine his mastery of draping with his superb tailoring and you get a commercially successful line.

During the Spring 2003 London season, the designer showed another facet of his creativity by showing daywear.

"I don't want to be put in a box. I'm still showing people what I'm about," the designer quoted backstage after his show.

Expect more from this London-based French designer in the international fashion scene.
