Mar 25, 2002/ FW/ --- "Real clothes for real people," is the theme of R. Scott
French's Fall 2002 collection.
Presented last Feb 15 at West 29th Street, the designer showed his base of menswear with his
3rd full collection of womenswear.
Entitled, "LeisureLuxe," the collection is an exploration of the combination of different
categories of clothing in one outfit.
"I was fascinated by the outfits that people wore when leaving the gym after work," the
designer said.
"Their look was a combination of the clothing they wore to work that day and
the clothing they wore to workout in."
The designer being inspired by "real people" is not surprising. After all, he had actually
used baseball players and artists instead of models on the runway.
Backstage and inspecting the clothes up close, the superb tailoring is very easy to see.
The stitches were denser, the collars were superbly cut and the clothes draped well on
the models' body.
Scott French who is perfectionist almost to a fault was dressing and styling the models
himself.
Of course, there were dressers and stylists backstage, but the designer was the one giving
the final "go" signal.
And the best thing about the collection, R. Scott French did not scrimp on the fabrics at all.
He used luxurious sportswear fabrics from the finest European mills and mixed with fabrics
traditionally used for more leisurely fashions.
So, if you're looking for leisure clothes this fall, check out R. Scott French at the shelves
of your favorite department stores.
Retail buyers were busy scribbling notes during the runway show, which meant that they were
very interested!
